All poems were written by Keysha when she was in high school.

Crushed
I liked HIM the first time I saw HIM
I knew he was the one for ME
I knew we should be TOGETHER
Just how I could NOT see.
I made the mistake of asking
One of my "VERY GOOD FRIENDS"
Who did HE go out with?
I think he's a perfect TEN. She quickly called him over,
Pointing a finger at ME:
"Somebody here LIKES you;
she wants to know if you're FREE."
I knew my life was over
When he turned and glanced at me
Shurgged his shoulders and said,
"YEAH WELL, uh GEE."
At that point I lost my crush.
The first LOVE of my high school years
But in the back of my mind,
I would always hold him DEAR.

Independence Day
When will you be let go, out of your wretched hole?
you Fight you Scream you Plead you Tease
All in good taste?  No. Never.
All you want is to be let go,
To know the way so perfectly, everything done just so.
And until then you live under rule:
Home. School. Home. School.
When will you be let go?
To soar like the wind; to roam, no home.
Leave when you please, come when you want,
Say what you wish, when you’re let go,
Will your heart ache
For the home you forsake?
Will you yearn to live under rule:
Home. School. Home.  School.
Can you be happy, as you are now?
Take it in stride, walk with pride?
It can be done. It shall be done.
It will be done.
It must.

In your journal:
What would make you feel more independent?
