“I want to thank you for coming to see us and show us what you have written. I really like your poems because they talk about real things that even I am going through. I can tell that you put a lot into what you wrote. I felt as if you told my life in some of the poems. You really got me very interested in reading your book. I also want to thank you for just even taking the time to come and see us, because not a lot of people would do that for us. So I hope you are very successful in writing more books about poetry! And I hope that you inspire a lot of other kids with those poems!” “Thank you for coming and sharing your knowledge with me. You taught me that I should never give up what I believe in. What I liked about the assembly is your insight about boys. I’ll use this when dealing with guys and their many games.” “I would like to say thank you for coming out here to ___ to talk to us about how you wrote your book and who inspired you to write your book, Hickey, Hiccups and Homework is a very nice book and I appreciate that you let everyone of us have one of your books. You had my full attention when you were talking to us, I like when you let us read your poems out loud. You a talented young woman and can tell just by reading your poems. Once again I would like to say thank you for coming out to speak to us.” “I really enjoyed reading your poems and hearing others read your poems. I also enjoyed hearing y our stories of every poem. I can’t wait until your next book comes out. I hope when that does happen you could come back and educate others on the book and the stories behind the poems. You inspired me to start writing poems about different things that have happened to me. I really appreciate you coming.” “Thank you for coming and sharing your wonderful poetry with us ladies. You are a wonderful woman. You inspire a lot of young poets. Your poems were so realistic. When I read them I thought about how so many people go through the same things in life. What I liked was when you let the ladies read your poems. You wrote them from the heart and when you talk about the poems, you knew that you can connect to other people’s struggles. I also like the fact that you express them by writing a poem is great. Thank you for sharing your spontaneous poems. I hope you could come back again!” “First I would like to say thank you for taking the time out of your day not to only meet with the teachers but with us ladies. I really appreciate it and thank you so much for the Hickeys, Hiccups and Homework book. You really didn’t have to do that but you did it out of the kindness in your heart.” “I wanted to write this letter to you to thank you for coming out to ______. It was nice of you to come all the way from Bridgeport to Waterbury to tell us your story, and how you became a poetry writer. I really appreciate everything. I liked your story too. It gave me hope. Your poems are very nice and realistic in everyday life young teens.” “I would like to say thank you for coming to ____ and showing your books to us. I appreciate. I was inspired by the book, also that you did those poems at such a young age. They were great. I love the “Father” poem. Keep writing poems. I can’t wait for your next book of poems.” “Thank you for coming and giving me a copy of your book. I think that your book is good and I enjoyed your book a lot. I really like the poem Remember Me. It was a situation that was similar to mine. Thank you for coming again.” “Thank you for coming to visit us to talk about your book. It was nice for you to read a poem and to hear my peers read poems. I really liked your book, and I love the poems. My favorite poem is Ever Lasting Love. It was nice to meet you.” “Keysha, I just wanted to thank you for that wonderful inspiring poetry book you gave all of us. I love poetry and I also used to write my own poems also. But once I read your book I was like “Wow, she’s an inspiring writer!” All the poems that you wrote were true. I could really tell that you have been through some of the experiences we have been through. I also would like to say that all the poems you have written inspired me to better myself such as in relationship. When you told us that your father was in and out of your life I just really stopped and thought because I don’t have a father myself, my father was never in my life. He left when I was 3 yrs. old. I wish you the best of luck in your life and in your career!” “Thank you for coming and talking to us, you really didn’t have to do that for us. You took time out of your day to come talk to us and that showed me you really did care. I offered to introduce you because I felt that it was an honor to have an author come talk to us about her book and everyday life of a teen. Oh I almost forgot to thank you for that terrific book you gave us, I really enjoyed it. I can relate to a lot of poems you wrote, especially the one about your father and love. My favorite ones are . . . Mystery Man, Still, and Memories of Him. So thank you again and I hope we can meet again sometime.” “Thank you for coming to ___ and sharing your wonderful poetry with us ladies. You are an excellent writer and I know that you inspire a lot of young ladies. Your poems were so true and when I read them I thought about life and that many people go through the same things. What I liked was when you read your poems. You read them from the heart and when you talk about the poems, it is like you knew what people struggles are. I also like the fact that when you had feelings you express them by writing a poem. That’s a really good coping skill. Thank you for sharing your beautiful poems.” “I really enjoyed reading your book. It has really pushed my enthusiasm to become a poet further. Hopefully one day like you I will be able to become an amazing writer. You have given a lot of us young girls hope and courage to do anything we have our hearts set on doing and I want to thank you so much for being that extra ear to hear our voices.”
